The announcement of Commonwealth Games 2010 is only a few months to come. This event will be held in Delhi, which is India's capital. Therefore, visitors will have a wonderful chance to discover heritage sites in this metro city.

India Gate: The 42 metre high arch is a popular hand out zone for Delhi'ites. Originally called 'All India War Memorial', the gate was built way back in 1931. An eternal flame of Amar Jyoti lit up the aura whole day and night.

 

Purana Quila (Old Fort): Constructed sometime between 1538 to 1545 A.D, this old fort is strongly associated with the legend of Sher Shah Suri. A lake in close proximity to the fort attracts visitors boating.

Jantar Mantar: Situated in Connaught Place, the Astronomical Observatory is popular all over the world. It was built in 1724 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, a Rajput King of Jaipur. Visitors can enjoy a virtual tour to space and have a close glimpse of stars and planets.

 

Jama Masjid: Built in 1656, it is the largest mosque in India. This home to Muslim faith is located just opposite to the Red Fort (Lal Quila) in Old Delhi.

 

Humayun's Tomb: History says that the architecture of love epitome, Taj Mahal(Agra) have been inspired by Humayan's Tomb. Built in the memory of Mughal Emperor Humayun, the monument is highly visited by tourist round the year. The chahar bagh embellished with water channels are worth watching.

 

Birla Mandir: The religious shrine was built in 1938 and is one of the oldest temples in Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Father of Nation, Late Mahatma Gandhi. Tourist often visit the place, either to pay homage to the divine deities or to appreciate its architectural splendor

 

Bahai's Temple: Popularly known as Lotus Temple, it is one of the popular attractions in Delhi. The white-washed temple is located in Kalkaji, South Delhi. It appeals spectators with its architectural marvel.

 

Qutub Minar: Built in 1199 A.D by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, this towering structure is one of its kind in the whole world. The Minar(tower) measures about 72.5 meters in height. Tourist are allowed to get around this historic tower all the year round.
